For this wedding my good friend and second shooter Karin and I hopped in her Hyunda Van (deluxe version!) and travelled to The Mount to photograph the wedding of Hamish and Jessica. Being fervent cricket fans, they thought it would be a cool idea to host their ceremony at the Bay Oval in the centre of Mount Maunganui. I have to admit, I didn’t’ quite know what to expect from the place, but man did it blew me away! The industrial backdrop mixed with the dramatic sky and contrasty design of architect Jasmax made for some easy photo scores. After the ceremony we hopped in our cars to drive to the waterfront, where again we were greeted with a to die for sky and light. We also had some awesome seagulls circling around us to add a bit of drama. Mills Reef was the couples venue of choice for their reception, where speeches, food and music provided for some great entertainment for their guests. After the party was well underway we packed up our gear and drove to the nearest good looking pub for a night cap, to then fall asleep under the Van’s sunroof. Still probably one of my favourite ways to sleep, even after some of the hottest hotels, AirBNB or Baches I’ve stayed in. Next morning we woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the sea, followed by I dip in the waves. I am always so thankful to the couples that hire us, to let us into their families and spend the day alongside each other. We will cherish the memories we have from the awesome wedding weekend forever!
