Hare Krishna Wedding | Rashi and Shakti

The wedding of Rashi and Shakti was one for the books. I had never been to a Hare Krishna wedding before in my life, so I was both curious and thrilled to see how the day was going to flow. The day started with my loyal second shooter Dean photographing at the house of groom Shakti, while I went to Rashi’s parents house. The dress Rashi had picked was beautiful, but boy it was heavy. One of the funniest moments of the wedding was Shakti arriving at the temple in Kumeu. Together with his friends and family they danced and paraded him to the front door, where the women awaited them. With some bribing at the entrance the women accepted the men to come in, and so the ceremony could begin.

The ceremony was a follow up of beautiful traditions, although I didn’t quite understand what was going on. What I could see were big smiles, and a glowing happiness that was filling up the room. After the ceremony there was an amazing dinner, speeches and dancing.

At this stage we hadn’t taken any location photos and the idea was to go to Bethelss to take some beautiful shots at the beach. With the blazing heat and a super heavy dress it couldn’t have been easy for Rashi to walk all the way to the water, but luckily for her there were some loyal dress carriers. We found a beautiful cave that provided some shelter and shade from the heat. When we finished we asked the local lifeguards to give Rashi and Shakti a lift back to the carpark, which was just the best reward for all their efforts.

I’m super excited to show you all the pictures of this wedding, but be aware, it’s a marathon. There were just too many cool moments, real emotions and beautiful details to leave any less pics out of the story. I hope you like it just as much as I do. xx
