Like every year, I was again lucky to have amazing couples book me for weddings in my home country Holland. My dear friends Steven and Ellen asked me to be part of their big day, in the small town I grew up in and lived for 20 years. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that I would be living on the opposite side of the world (NZ), to be coming home (NL) to be photographing weddings. I've known Steven since my early childhood and ever since we have stayed in touch, and his fiancée Ellen is just the most genuine person you would ever meet. So to be part of their big day was like the best thing ever, I wouldn't have want to miss it for the world.
The wedding took place in the small village of De Lier, in a typical little glasshouse styled perfectly by the uber talented NonPop-Up. Their wedding was very much a family and friends affair, Ellen and Steven wanted to utilise as much time as possible with their guests to celebrate and party. We made a very quick trip to the dunes of The Hague to take some couple portraits to be back in time before the guests arrived. The ceremony and reception were both at Ellen's family home, a special and beautiful setting at a private location. As icing on the cake they were treated with the most stunning blue sky day, so they could maximise the gardens and outdoor dining without a worry in the world.
What a treat it was and so special to be part of, one of my highlights of my trip back to The Netherlands. The party went on until the small hours of the evenings and I was so happy to have a little boogie amongst my old friends myself to finish off an amazing day.
